  MICHELHAM BOWMEN
  -
Recreating the Middle Ages  - What We Do

Who we are and what do we do

The Michelham Bowmen combine archery with Living History to present a recreation of life during medieval times. We cover the 13th- 15th century. This is when the Priory flourished and the longbow made the English archer the most feared opponent on the battlefield.

We are a non-profit making private society, bound together not only by our interest in archery and the Middle Ages, but also by our commitment to our hosts the Sussex Archaeological Society and their Priory team.

We shoot every Saturday from 12.00 in the grounds of the beautiful and historic Michelham Priory in East Sussex

We make a point of engaging with members of the public who visit the Priory, and usually offer “have a go” archery to visitors.

We always shoot in period costume and on special event days set up a much more comprehensive Living History display which can range from a simple tablet top display to a full medieval encampment. Many of our members are skilled in traditional crafts and use such events as an opportunity to practice their crafts and interact with the public.

We are not highly competitive when it comes to shooting. Most members shoot just for the enjoyment of shooting a longbow in a relaxed and friendly environment. As such we have variety of target types

Although we take safety seriously we try not to take ourselves too seriously. This ensues that we keep having fun with what we are doing - Meet our Members by clicking here
